Common Grammar Mistakes

Here is an ongoing list of grammar mistakes that I have encountered in the classroom as I teach English.  In alphabetical order they are:

  • depend of...which should be depend on
  • If with a capital 'I' in the middle of a sentence when using a conditonal.  Example: I would speak more English If I could.  This should be: I would speak more English if I could.
  • people is, instead of people are
  • there is/are and there was/were mixed up with singular and plural nouns.  Example: There is many famous monuments in Zaragoza.  This should be: There are many famous monuments...
